How to Apply
Vermont Leadership Institute Application
The Snelling Center for Government invites members of the public, non-profit, and private sectors to apply for admission to the Vermont Leadership Institute. The application process is highly competitive, with up to twenty-four associates selected on the basis of their professional achievements, demonstrated interest in the community, and potential for leadership. We seek applicants who are. . .
- committed to Vermont,
- curious about the issues facing Vermont,
- committed to learning and growing, and
- value inquiry and dialogue.
The VLI Class of 2009 began its training in September of 2008. Most day sessions take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Each session requires some advance preparation. We ask associates to apply their learning to a personal leadership plan. See session dates and descriptions.

The Snelling Center for Government is a non-profit, non-partisan organization. VLI encourages applicants from a variety of perspectives and welcomes ideological diversity.
The application process includes
* Completion of the application. We conduct interviews in April and May, and inform candidates of their status in late May.
* Submission of two letters of recommendation (details can be found in the application)
* Remittance of a nonrefundable $25 application fee.
* Submission of a black and white head shot to colleen@snellingcenter.org
* Participation in an interview or informational meeting
